Creating a Science Fiction Novel

I’ve been interested in Space since I was knee high. In elementary school, I wanted to be and dressed up to be Buck Rogers. Funny thing about toys – the space rifle I owned is now worth over $2500. I began reading science fiction also. I read about Lucky Starr and his adventures on each of the planets. And the Mushroom planet hiding in earth orbit. Soon I was reading mainstream stories by Heilein, Asimov, Silverberg, Blish, Wells, Verne , and more. I traveled with them through space, under the seas, through time, and anywhere they and my imagination would lead. I read Fantasy and Science Fiction and Amazing magazines cover-to-cover. I watched Tom Corbett and Captain Midnight on TV, and Science Fiction Theater Sunday nights. I grew up loving Science Fiction.

It’s wonderful that Science Fiction has become so popular now – Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, ET, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic Park, and so many more.

I learned how to write in creating the two Historical Fiction novels which took almost a decade to research and finish. Then I embarked on the project I had always wanted – to write my own Science Fiction.

I’ve always been more of a fan of good stories that include Science fiction like Field of Dreams and Charly. So I wove the fabric of sentient androids into a crime story. I set the story in the environment I live in, Florida Gulf Coast. While I know there have been many caveats, additions, and changes to the Laws of Robotics created by Isaac Asimov in 1942, i wanted to stay close to the original set. And there’s a love story – longtime detective meets corporate female executive of like mind, working together to solve the crimes. Then falling in love. And there are the requisite conflicts but it’s a happy ending story. Please enjoy it as much as I did creating it.

I’m proud of it. It took 7 years; I think I’ll concentrate of shorter fiction now.
